silent healing

We all experience emotional struggles and each of us has our own way on how to deal with it.

In my process of self-healing, i usually write quotes that i could relate to based on what i have experienced and what i am trying to heal from. It is not easy getting over pain, heartbreak and hurt and betrayal. Inspirational quotes motivate and inspire me to go on. They uplift my mood, encourage me to be positive and make me feel hopeful and happy.

And what else could make me happy? These cuties.

I just hug these fur babes and i would feel okay. Cat’s purr is believed to have therapeutic effects on human as it is both relaxing and healing. Cats spread a lot of positive energy too which is exactly what i need.

a time to celebrate

New year marks a new beginning… a fresh page to another year. I resolve to be happy, embrace positivity, find joy in little things and just go confidently towards my goals and dreams.

Starting the year 2018 by celebrating Star’s 6th birthday.

Star @6yrs

I have so much to be grateful for my furbabes. I just hug them and my stress magically disappears.

I have faced a lot of challenges in 2017. I hope that 2018 would be a better year. I sincerely want to have a more relaxed state of mind… to be genuinely happy and to be FINALLY free from all the negativities.

Overthinking, worrying and feeling regretful are some of the things that made my 2017 challenging. Overthinking just doesn’t get things done. It is stressful and only causes restlessness and sleepless nights. This year I should try to focus more on self reflection and to accept the fact that life is not perfect. I should not also waste my time with too much worrying as it causes too much anxieties.

May 2018 be a good one… Hello positivity, hello new dreams, hello new me.

Happy New Year to all.

happy 3rd birthday marwind

I could still remember the day i got Marwind from the breeder. Looking at 6 pups, he was the one who approached me and i fell in love instantly. I immediately held him in my arms to know if he would really bond with me and he settled in right away and did not have any resistance at all. That’s when i knew that Marwind is the one.

Details on his certificate are: sire Meghana’s Lifeline Jasper; dam Dora Von Der Nacht – daughter of PH Champ Ebby Z. Milabru. Marwind is a grandson of a Philippine Champ.

We used to take Marwind at the mall quite often when he was just a puppy. He instantly attracted so many stares and petting because of his cuteness.

marwind @ the mall

Now that he’s an adult and has grown so big, he still gets a lot of attention whenever we take him out and because of his size and good looks i always hear people say “ang laki” (so big). Taking him on car rides gets him lots of stares and admiration too with that big face sticking out of the window.

marwind @ 3yrs

As a guard dog, he is fierce, territorial and very loyal. He has a deep and loud bark that sounds so intimidating. He barks at anyone approaching or near our gate. But, whenever he is out of his own territory which is our home, Marwind is a very cool dog and he could be petted by anyone. He is calm and comfortable when at the vet and unmindful of the barkings of other dogs. He doesn’t mind being handled during routinary check ups like opening his mouth, checking his teeth, checking his ears and body, etc. He is just one cool dog outside of his realm. Also, he is very protective of me that sometimes even to the point of not letting my other dog Rafraf be near me.

Marwind loves ice. I give them as treats. He also enjoys playing with water.

Happy 3rd birthday Marwind of Gershephund. You deserved all my overflowing love and care.

The Daily Post Daily Prompt: EXTRAVAGANT

in retrospect

It is going to be 2018 very soon…

2017 is generally a good year but sometimes a bit of challenges and problems pop up along the way. There are happy and festive memories with some sad ones too but life goes on… just pick up the pieces and enjoy, be thankful, be merry and do good deeds.

JANUARY. The year started wonderfully. Family reunions and celebrations were the best part of this month.

FEBRUARY. So lucky enough not to be celebrating valentine’s day alone. My youngest son was my valentine’s date. We had a nice dinner and just enjoyed each others company. We talked about his wish of finding a job and capped our date with watching valentine’s day fireworks display.

valentine’s day fireworks display

MARCH. My daughter’s birth month and my niece’s wedding. All my family stayed in a resort as we waited for the big day. It was so memorable as it was the first wedding in my family. It was also my first time to walk down the aisle wearing a lovely beaded lace gown as one of the principal sponsors. The event was so magical.

APRIL. Welcome home Toyota Wigo. I helped my eldest son of finally having his own car. Also, my youngest son’s dream of having a job finally came true and we are all so delighted about the good news.

MAY. I really have no plans of adding more cats in my household but i just couldn’t turn away a fur baby in need. Goldie is a rescued black cat and he became my number 7. He received all the medications he needed, was neutered and i welcomed him to my home.

BEFORE

GOLDIE NOW

JUNE. My nephew’s birth month. I really looked forward to birthdays as it’s that time when we have a sort of mini family reunion. I cherish every moment i spend with all my family.

JULY. My mother’s birth month. So much to be thankful as my mother celebrated her 84th birthday.

AUGUST. My late brother’s birth month. I still miss my brother. He was gone too soon.

SEPTEMBER. My youngest son’s birth month. My sister arrived from abroad. My african love bird Lemon crossed the bridge. I experienced so many emotions this month. Happy as we celebrated my son’s birthday, excited that i finally hugged my sister when she arrived home for a short vacation and sad when my bird Lemon crossed the bridge because of old age.

OCTOBER. My eldest son and my sister is sharing the same birth month. I am happy that my eldest son has a steady job working as a chef in one of the popular comfort food restaurants. Since my sister is working abroad, greeting her via a phone call is the best thing.

NOVEMBER. My birth month. I renewed my driver’s license but sadly the plastic card might be released by early next year because of back log in processing. How frustrating! I must CONFESS that i became so emotionally weak during this month. I’m only human and sometimes i also get to experience being at the lowest part of my roller coaster ride. It was triggered by a post i’ve seen on social media wherein “they” looked so happy as a couple and as i looked at myself, all i see is just me… i am alone. Life is so unfair. Well, after a heart to heart talk with my sister i became okay. Sometimes, all a person needs is a good cry to pour out all the heartaches and release all the emotional burden… and afterwards heavy loads inside the heart simply feel lighter. As they say, life goes on…

DECEMBER. Happy month. Finally renewed my passport for my travel plans next year to visit my sister in Dubai. Yey! The most fun of it all is celebrating Christmas Day with the family. The best part is i welcomed a new fur baby AKIRO. Here’s her first selfie with me… Isn’t she cute. I love this teeny weeny bundle of joy.

first selfie with akiro

As i begin to welcome the new year 2018, i would try to do better, be happy, start on a positive note, rid of all the negativities, begin a new chapter, start afresh with new set of dreams. To myself, to my dream.

Looking forward to a happier 2018.

christmas 2017

From my family and furmily,

Marwind, a german shepherd who will soon turn 3yrs
Rafraf, a native local aspin dog that i adopted from the province. He is 2yrs old.
Tobi, a shitzu who just turned 5yrs
Kristina, my very first pet who is already 11 yrs old. Don’t let her age fool you, she is still a puppy at heart.
Star, (white persian cat; middle photo) my princess… my first cat. She will be turning 6 yrs at the end of 2017.
Boots, (gray persian cat) a foster fail.
Tiger, (white and orange cat) my 2nd cat. I adopted him from the shelter to be Star’s playmate. I just celebrated his 5th year adoptversary last October 2017.
Kuting, (gingercat) previously one of the outside cats that i feed but made him an indoor cat because he is just too sweet to be an outside cat.
Ashton, (tabby) i rescued him last 2015 as a teeny-weeny kitten fitting the palm of my hand. Now, he is a big boy who loves to eat.
Goldie, (black cat) a rescue. From a skinny, baldy, hungry, scarred cat he turned out to be a beautiful cat and i was surprised that he actually has semi-long coat.
Puti, (first photo) my special needs cat. Because she is deaf, sometimes her meows are so funny.

Also, from my outside cats (last photo),

Big Mama, Big Boy, Trico, TepTep and Lily.

and………………………..  lastly from AKI, a brand-new addition to my furmily. As in super brand-new as he just arrived at this very moment,

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Side Story:  While doing this post my son arrived home and surprised me with a new kitty…  his Christmas gift to me. Oh my gosh, truly unexpected and i cried with joy.. Here he is… AKI, a cute addition to my big furmily. Welcome home sweet baby.

Peace, Love and Happiness to all.

Weekly Photo Challenge: 2017 Favorites

if i fitz i sitz

Cats are so fond of tight places.. my salad bowl which i just temporarily placed on the center table became one of their favorite nap spots. A salad bowl became a cat bowl. Same thing goes to my fruit basket which is now officially a cat basket.

“If i fitz i sitz” is the famous TRADEMARK slogan of cats.

My cat Tiger loves to squeeze himself into my salad bowl and my fruit basket. He is a big cat but he still fitz.

Since Puti is the youngest among my cats and is the smallest, she could pretty much fitz herself in.

Ashton, the tabby cat has the biggest belly and is always having a hard time to fitz. Kuting is obsessed with boxes. He’s always the first one to dive in whenever i place a new box to play with. Tiger sometimes love to snuggle tightly at the back of the curtains. Lower right photo features Puti who managed to force herself into the trash bin.

Cats are oftentimes silly and mischievous whenever they are on play mode but are sweethearts during relaxed moments. But most of all, they lower my stress level, great companion, fun to talk to and absolutely are the best in the world in keeping secrets hahaha.

a jolly bee

I love taking photos of flowers after the rain. Rain droplets are awesome. Each and every one of them contains a clear miniature reflection of images. And they glitter like crystal beads.

But.. one photo gave me a surprise. Did i’ve just taken a photo of a bee? I zoomed it in and there it was… a bumble bee.

Did you see it? It’s at the upper right side of the photo. Here it is…

Today’s weather is awesome. The sun is shining but i could feel some cool breeze in the air. A lot of birds are flying by and made my front yard a stopover. Since i still have lots of leftover birdseed and sunflower seeds, i usually scatter some in front of the main door. While the birds are busy eating, the kitties are so happy watching them.

Here’s Ashton and Kuting having a wonderful day watching live cat tv.

The Daily Post Weekly Photo Challenge: GLOW

caring for a special needs cat

Puti (means white in English) is my all white deaf kitty with sparkling blue eyes. She started out as my foster but i ended up giving her a forever home.

We never knew at first that she is deaf until one day when my son playfully made a loud noise while holding her and she didn’t even flinch. My son made more loud noises near her ears and never reacted. It was later on confirmed by the vet when she was spayed.

Puti has a funny meow. It is a combination of cresendo and decrescendo of meows. Oh i wish i could record it. Anyway, it may also be a sudden burst of meow that will surely catch your attention.

At feeding time, she’s the only one with the loudest meow. Sometimes it is so loud that i thought i might have stepped on her tail or what.

Here are some pointers on how to care for a deaf cat/kitty.

  • As much as possible, avoid disturbing a deaf kitty while asleep. Deaf cats startle so easily while a normal sleeping cat would almost always curl up more and welcome the gentle strokes as it lays sleeping. If there is a need to wake the kitty up just be gentle as much as possible.
  • Provide toys that produce sounds. Deaf cats may never hear the sound but they will surely feel the vibrations the toys make.
  • If you want to communicate with your deaf cat, place the cat’s body under your chin or chest so it could feel the vibrations as we speak. (I say “eat” when it’s time to eat. I say her name a few times during relaxed moments. I say “play” when it is time to play). I prefer to say one word than phrases so my cat could easily remember it and it worked.
  • Another way to communicate is to teach a deaf cat some simple hand signals. During feeding time, i do hand signals to Puti so she would sit before i give her bowl of food. I raise one finger (pointing up) which signals her to sit. Being constant is the trick. Now she knows and follows my hand signal.

Above pointers are all based on my own experience. I honestly BELIEVE that they could serve as a guide in dealing with a deaf cat. Just devote a little time, some patience and a little training.

My cat Puti may be a special needs cat but it doesn’t stop her from being so playful like any normal cats.

an awesome cat cafe experience

With about 6 cat cafes in the metro, Le Cat Cafe is the nearest to my place and just a short drive away.

Upon entering we were immediately greeted by the welcoming furry committee. Meet Barton, Butter and Prince Harry.

barton, butter and prince harry

Barton, the all white Ragamuffin Puspin is the very first one to greet us. He is fluffy and soft as a cotton. I could hug him all day. He is so sweet and friendly. Butter, a Ragamuffin is very affectionate. And Prince Harry, a Ragamuffin Persian would roll over to seek attention because he loves belly rubs.

sophie

My sister told me that if ever there’s a cat that she would want to take home, it’s going to be Sophie. Her almost cross-eyed looks make her even more adorable . She is really a sweetheart.

arthur

Little Arthur, an exotic short haired Persian cat loves sleeping. He’s the one i would love to take home.

kid

Kid, also a Ragamuffin Persian is very lovable and huggable. He has long thick soft fur, loves attention and enjoys to be petted.

rocket

Rocket, the Scottish Fold was almost asleep the whole time we’re there.

mochi

Mochi, is a Napoleon according to the staff but is quite long-legged.

Snack time is so enjoyable and entertaining to watch. All the furry babies scrambled for every CRUMB of cat treats. Finally, we got to see all of them.

And here are the rest of the kitties including Ashley the American Curl, Orange the American Shorthair, Happy the Ragamuffin Persian and Tyrion the Munchkin.

ashley, happy, tyrion, etc.

With all the international breeds of cats around, the cat cafe has a Puspin which is our local domestic cat breed. A big shout out to Charlie, the 2 year old male Puspin. I love his nice coat patterns.

charlie

We paid P199.00 or about less than 2 US dollars inclusive of one hot coffee and 2 hours stay at the cat lounge. We were so lucky that we have all the cats just to ourselves as we were the only visitors. I guess i need to thank the bad weather for that as it has been raining almost the whole day yesterday. It is really best to visit the place on ordinary days because during weekends, the staff said that the place is filled to the brims.

A few observations and suggestions:

  • All the cats are well groomed. They look good and smell good. Just furrfect! They are well taken cared of and most of all they are so friendly and social. Almost all of them seeks and craves for attention.
  • The cat cafe is clean and neat and airconditioned. But it is rather small. Parking area is very limited too. The good news as told by the staff, is they would soon move to a bigger place before the year ends and hopefully with a bigger parking area.
  • They have limited novelty items for sale. I suggested that they should offer more like journals, pencils and pens, mugs, figurines, key chains, etc. Of course with cat prints or designs on them that most cat lovers would love to buy and collect.
  • Photos of the fur babies should be updated as not all the cats’ photos are on the wall. We always ask the staff for the names of other cats.
  • I hope they would think about having more local cats or Puspins and putting them up for adoption. There are so many rescued local cats that need forever homes. Or maybe partnering with a cat rescue organization or a shelter which would certainly provide them with lots of adoptable cats.

Overall experience. It’s a fun activity bonding with the cats. The 2 hour experience surely gave me that wonderful happy feeling. Absolutely worth it! The staff is very accommodating and they even gave us a loyalty card. I would love to visit them again someday.

you complete me

There is only one thing in my kids’ mind when you ask them about their ultimate comfort food… it’s lasagna. (See below if you want to know my lasagna recipe). And what is lasagna without cheese, lots of cheese? My fridge is never without cheeses… cream cheese, quick melt cheese, cheddar and mozzarella.

Cheese makes everything delightful. It is so FLAVORFUL, so good, so addicting. It is so versatile too. It could be an appetizer, a dip, mixed with desserts and great for baking/cooking. Just thinking about it makes me want to grab for some bread right now and make a grilled cheese sandwich. Cheese… you complete me. Yum!

How about you? What’s your ultimate comfort food?

My lasagna recipe. (I’m sure i already blogged about this but i’m sharing it again)

As a busy mom, i oftentimes make shortcuts when cooking. So i use ready bake lasagna sheets and store bought spaghetti sauce when i cook the ground meat. I sometimes make use of mozzarella sheets if i have them. It’s not often available so grated mozzarella is the next best thing. If out of mozzarella or on a budget? I also make use of quick melt cheese.

For the white sauce. Just melt butter in pan, add some flour, stir to cook and slowly add milk. Stir to prevent lumps. Season with salt to taste or in my recipe i just drop a pork bouillon cube to add more flavor. You may add some cream too for that creamier texture. Bring it to boil with constant stirring to make it even more glossy.

For the ground meat. I usually buy a combination of pork and beef. Based on my own experience, purely ground beef results to an oilier meat sauce. Put ground meat on pan, add some salt, chopped garlic and onion. When cooked, stir in store bought spaghetti sauce. Give it a dash of italian seasoning, some salt if needed and a little sugar to balance acidity. Simmer and set aside.

For layering. Just alternate white sauce and ground meat on a baking pan adding some mozzarella if you want an ooey-gooey lasagna but quick melt cheese will do just fine. I bake it for about 40 minutes with the pan covered in foil at first to prevent burnt cheese topping then i remove the foil covering and bake it just a little more time until the topping has a golden glaze. (Tip: To test if your pasta is cooked, just pierce it with a toothpick or a chopstick and you will know and feel if it’s done.)

Cool… serve… and enjoy! Best paired with toasted french bread with garlic parsley butter spread.

Boots: Mom… did you just say LASAGNA?
Mom: Yuppp! Oh! I thought you’ve just eaten ’cause you still have food stains on your mouth, hahaha…
