Bird’s eye chilli ranked in the top 5 hottest chilies in the world but i am slowly losing my “hot” plants to the birds who frequently visit my garden. Not only they eat the leaves but the fruits as well.
At one time, this chilli was even listed as the hottest chili in the Guinness Book of World Records during the times when other hotter varieties of chilies have not been since identified.

dear Elizz,
I hope the birds need to drink a lot of water
after eating those hottest chili version!
oh yes they do.. they drink from my dog’s water bowl but they do that whenever my GS is not looking or sleeping otherwise he’ll run and chase them..
I’m amazed that the birds eat the chilli. Surely it hurts their mouths?
i’ve read that birds don’t have the receptors to taste the spiciness like mammals do so they just tast the fruit/seed, not the heat.
Nice job!
thank you 🙂
beautiful red… beautiful. Thanks and Love, nia

I had no idea that birds had a taste for such hot things as chilies. 🙂 Lovely photo,
at first i had no clue who’s eating the leaves and the fruits but one day i saw the culprits, the birds.. well right now the leaves are almost gone .
